Newcomers win seats on East Windsor regional school board

Two of three incumbent school board members were turned out of office by East Windsor voters and replaced by two newcomers, based on the unofficial results of the Nov. 6 general election.

Hightstown voters re-elected their representative to the East Windsor Regional School District Board of Education, who was running unopposed in her quest for another three-year term.

The vote tallies for the school board election and for the Hightstown mayor and Borough Council election only reflect ballots cast on voting machines, and do not include mail-in and provisional ballots.

Meanwhile, incumbent school board members Paul Connolly and Robert Laverty lost their bids for re-election to newcomers Christina “Tina” Lands and Colleen Murphy. Incumbent school board member Alice Weisman was re-elected. The term is for three years.

Lands was the top vote-getter with 3,362 voters, followed by Murphy with 2,561 votes and Weisman with 2,510 votes. Weisman is the current board president. Connolly placed fourth, with 2,167 votes, and Laverty trailed with 1,393 votes.

Jennifer Drake, who represents Hightstown on the school board, received 938 votes. She was running unopposed for another three-year term.

In the Highstown municipal election, incumbent Mayor Lawrence D. Quattrone was re-elected to another four-year term. Quattrone, who is a Democrat, squared off against Republican challenger J.P. Gibbons.

Quattrone received 1,023 votes and Gibbons received 650 votes.

Incumbent Hightstown Borough Council members Susan Bluth and Dimitri Musing, both Democrats, were re-elected to four-year terms. They were being challenged by Republicans Jeanne M. Ruggiero-Mair and Milton O. Matamoros.

Bluth led the unofficial vote tally with 1,042 votes, followed by Musing with 989 votes. Matamoros and Ruggiero-Mair trailed with 625 votes and 622 votes, respectively.
