The East Brunswick Library will sponsor “Strings of the World” at 2 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the library, Civic Center Drive off Ryders Lane, featuring several unique stringed instruments.
Max Wei will play the er-hu, a bowed and two-stringed Chinese instrument. He has played it for more than 15 years, and is currently an er-hu instructor at the Mid-Jersey Chinese School and Princeton Chinese Language School.
The concert also features Jemmie Tsai, who will demonstrate the pipa, a pear-shaped Chinese stringed instrument. An active member of the Rutgers Sinfonia, she is also an accomplished violist with the Association of New Jersey Chinese School Youth Chinese Orchestra.
Harpist Bridget Knodel will also be performing. Currently in her fourth year at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Art studying under Andre Tarantiles, she is a member of the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra and the New Sussex Symphony.
The santoor—a trapezoid-shaped hammered string instrument from India—will be played by Deepal Chodhari. She graduated from North Indian Classical and earned the title of “sangeet visharad” under the tutelage of Smt. Shashikala Kaikini from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan in India.
The concert is free and open to the public. The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the East Brunswick Library.
