‘Emperor’s New Duds’ comes to Freehold

FREEHOLD – Center Players Dessert Theater will present a family friendly production of “The Emperor’s New Duds” at Center Playhouse, 35 South St., Freehold, from Dec. 7-16.

A musical adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Emperor’s New Clothes,”
“The Emperor’s New Duds” was written by Bernice Garfield-Szita, who will co-direct the production with Enid Bush, according to a press release.

This charming modern take of the classic fairy tale is set in the land of Felicity which is blessed by people from all over the globe. Everyone is happy except for the Emperor, who can’t seem to get enough jewels and expensive attire. Some shifty weavers appear and lessons unfold, according to the press release.

Leading a local cast of 18 actors ranging in age from 9 to 82 is Freehold Township Committeewoman Barbara J. McMorrow, in the role of Antigua.

Performance dates for “The Emperor’s New Duds” are Dec. 7 at 8 p.m., Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Dec. 9 at 2 p.m., Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., and Dec. 16 at 3 p.m.
