Crash in South Brunswick leaves deliveryman in critical condition

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Police are investigating a crash that seriously injured a 47-year-old North Bergen man on Dec. 4.

At 5:26 p.m., the victim pulled his box truck to the side of Fresh Ponds Road near Deans Rhode Hall Road as he went to make a delivery, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department. As he was in the roadway, he was struck by a 2011 Mercedes driven by a 31-year-old North Brunswick man.

The victim was taken by South Brunswick EMS and paramedics to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was in critical condition in the intensive care unit, as of press time, according to the statement.

The driver of the Mercedes stayed on scene. Fresh Ponds Road was closed for more than an hour as traffic investigators examined the scene.

The accident is under investigation by South Brunswick Traffic Safety Bureau Officer William Merkler. Anyone with information should call 732-329-4646.
