A Sayreville War Memorial High School teacher has been charged with engaging in inappropriate conduct with several high school students.
Eric Pieklo, 50, of South Amboy, the Woodshop teacher at the school, was charged on Dec. 7 with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the second degree, and five counts of engaging in criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree with female students ages 16 to 18, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief John Zebrowski of the Sayreville Police Department.
Pieklo was charged during an investigation by Detective Sean McGrath of the Sayreville Police Department and Detective Mark Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation began when Sayreville police responded to a report from school officials regarding one of the teachers, according to the statement. Their investigation determined that from January through December, Pieklo allegedly engaged in inappropriate conduct with three female students at his workshop located in South Amboy, as well as at the Sayreville school. This included allegedly inappropriately touching the female students as well as making inappropriate comments to those students, according to the statement.
Pieklo also allegedly provided two students, one of which was a male student, with marijuana and alcohol at his workshop located in South Amboy, police said.
He is currently suspended with pay from Sayreville War Memorial High School where he was employed as a Woodshop teacher for 14 years with tenure.
He was being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick pending his initial court appearance.
