Princeton U hoops
The Princeton University men’s basketball team fell to 4-4 on the season with an 89-74 loss to St. John’s at Madison Square Garden last Sunday. Devin Cannady led four Tigers in double-figures in scoring with 18 points. Freshman Jaelin Llewellyn sank 17 points, while Richmond Arirguzoh put in 13 and Jose Morales scored 12. Princeton will be back in action on Saturday when it faces Iona in an 11:30 a.m. start at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
The Princeton women improved to 4-7 with a 79-47 victory at Monmouth on Tuesday. Carlie Littlefield scored 19 points and Bella Alarie sank 16 for Princeton. The victory was the third straight for the Tigers, who had topped Quinnipiac, 54-42, last Saturday. Littlefield and Alarie had 16 points apiece in the triumph. The Tigers will be the host to Marist on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Princeton U hockey
The Princeton University women’s ice hockey team ran its unbeaten streak to 12 with victories at RPI and Union last weekend. The Tigers topped RPI, 5-2, on Friday Karlie Lund and Sharon Frankel each had a goal and an assist in the victory. Princeton topped Union, 4-0, on Saturday as Stephanie Neatby made 15 saves for the shutout in goal. The Tigers, who are 9-2-3, are off until Dec. 30 when they will be home to Merrimack.
The Princeton men fell to 3-8-1 with a pair of home losses to Arizona State last weekend. The Tigers dropped a 4-0 decision on Friday before falling, 3-2, in overtime on Saturday. Max Veronneau and Ryan Kuffner each scored a goal in the loss. Princeton will face Penn State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
Winter Wonder Run
Gunnar Clingman of Pennington was the top overall finisher in the Winter Wonder Run 6k, which was held in Princeton and hosted by the Princeton Athletic Club. Clingman covered the course in 23 minutes, 14 seconds. Karim Bendouma of New York was second in 23:41 and Princeton resident Hector Amaya finished third in 26:43.
Aninda Manocha of Princeton was the top female finisher, ninth overall, in 28:10. Laura Weigert was the second female finisher, 17th overall, while Shari Weston was the third female finisher, 19th overall.
COLLEGE
Jalynn Spaulding
The Stuart Country Day School graduate has played in five games this season for the Virginia State University women’s basketball team. Spaulding is averaging 1.8 points per game. She scored a season high seven points in a 105-61 win over Lynchburg on Nov. 24.
Virginia State is 6-2 on the season after a 52-39 win over Claflin. The Trojans were scheduled to host St. Augustine’s on Thursday and will be the host to Fayetteville State on Saturday.
Chase Lewis
The Princeton Day School graduate is averaging 4.4 points per game this season for the Rochester Institute of Technology men’s basketball team. Lewis has played in seven games this season for the Tigers. He had a season-high seven points in a 74-68 loss to Union on Dec. 1.
RIT is 2-6 on the season. The Tigers are off until Jan. 2 when they will play at D’Youville College.
