Dog dies in Hillsborough house fire

A dog died in a fire that occurred in a home on Wolfe Drive, Hillsborough, on Dec. 14.

Hillsborough police said officers responded to investigate a report of a structure fire. The officers observed fire and smoke on the second floor of the residence.

Firefighters who responded to the scene extinguished the fire in about one hour, according to police. A family dog was trapped inside the residence and was found deceased by firefighters.

Two residents were transported to a hospital for what were described as non-life threatening injuries. A third resident was treated at the scene for what were described as non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said the fire is under investigation by police detectives and the Hillsborough Township Fire Safety Bureau.

The following service units responded to the fire: Hillsborough Township Police Department, Hillsborough Fire Stations 36, 37, 38, Neshanic Fire Company, Manville Fire Department, Montgomery Fire Company 1, Finderne Fire Company, Raritan Fire Department, Hillsborough Township Fire Safety, Hillsborough Township Office of Emergency Management, Hillsborough Township Building Department, Roberty Wood Johnson Emergency Medical Services, Saint Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center and PSE&G.
