The 2018-19 scholastic boys’ basketball season opened on Dec. 14-15. Here is how the Toms River schools fared.

Toms River High School South

Toms River High School South defeated Southern Regional High School, 59-51, in Manahawkin.

Junior point guard Jalen Folsom scored 20 points to guide the Indians to the victory. Junior small forward Rob Marro scored 12 points and junior guard Nick Luongo recorded 10 points to contribute to the victory.

Toms River South played Central Regional High School on Dec. 18 and then it will face on its home court in-town rival Toms River High School North on Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Toms River High School East

Toms River High School East defeated Mater Dei Prep High School, 81-61, in Middletown.

Junior guard Mike Goodall led all scorers with 32 points in the win. Junior guard Ryan Goodall added 17 points and seven rebounds, senior guard Josh Nicol finished with 11 points, five rebounds, six assists and four blocks, and junior forward Riley Engelhard produced 12 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.

Toms River East will have faced Southern Regional High School at home on Dec. 18. Then the next game will be a matchup against Brick Township High School in Brick on Dec. 21. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.

Donovan Catholic High School

Donovan Catholic High School lost to Pinelands Regional High School, 53-50, in Tuckerton.

Freshman guard Jaden Anthony led Donovan Catholic with 16 points and senior guard Matt Melon scored 15 points. Donovan Catholic’s next game will be a road game against Manchester Township High School on Dec. 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Toms River High School North

Toms River High School North lost to St. Augustine High School, 70-63, in Richland.

Junior forward Najea Hallenbeck had 15 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Senior forward Nick Dunzack added 11 points and four rebounds, junior guard Colin Baker finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and junior guard Jakari Spence produced eight points and five assists.

Toms River North will have played Brick Township on Dec. 18. Then the next game will be an in-town rivalry road matchup against Toms River High School South in Toms River on Dec. 20. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
