MILLSTONE – Recognition has been given to two departing members of the Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education as they conclude their service to the district.
Dec. 10 marked the final meeting for board members Amy Jacobson and John Sico, whose terms will end on Dec. 31. In recognition of their service to the school district, each board member was presented with a plaque.
Jacobson joined the board in 2009. She did not seek re-election in November.
Sico, who was not present, joined the board in 2016. He ran for a new three-year term, but was not re-elected in November.
“Dr. John Sico has been on the board for three years and has brought his insights and his guidance,” board President David DePinho said. “Dr. Amy Jacobson has served on the board for a decade. Being on the board is a volunteer effort. It’s one that takes a lot of time, it’s an important responsibility and it’s a trust that is given to us on behalf of the community. I know Dr. Sico has brought that level of guidance, that passion and that commitment for the past three years.
“Amy, you have done the same for the past 10 years,” DePinho continued. “I know we both do work with the Boy Scouts and I know the saying of the Boy Scouts is ‘leave no trace.’ That doesn’t apply here because you certainly have left a trace. I just want to say publicly, with the commitment and the passion you have given, that has been greatly appreciated for the past 10 years. So thank you for that service.”
Ramon Recalde, a former member of the board who served with Jacobson, said, “Amy, I want to thank you for the years and hours of double-service you did in Millstone and Upper Freehold Regional (as Millstone’s representative to that district’s school board).
“… Personally, I wanted to thank you. Although we had a lot of differences, philosophical and politically, with respect, we always spoke extensively about a lot of issues and I wanted to thank you for that.
“On behalf of everybody in the township, because I’ve spoken to a lot of people, I wanted to thank you for your tenacity and to stick by it and give us all the hours and nights,” Recalde said. “I think you really made a difference.”
Resident Beth Cotler said, “I wanted to say thank you to Amy. (There were) many, many hours, time and commitment. It’s an honor you have served all of us and it’s an honor I call you my friend.”
