Members of the American Legion proceed through the small crowd during the flag retirement ceremony held at American Legion Post 211 in Sayreville on June 14. American Legion Post 211 retired hundreds of flags during the ceremony.

Sayreville American Legion Post 211 played as the host to American Legion State Commander Ray Miller’s official visit to Middlesex County last month, where he explained the elements of his state project to aid state programs for veterans.

Miller’s project will assist facilities providing services for veterans across the state by providing $25 to fund Tom Kennedy Hoboken Post 107’s construction of six homeless veteran bedrooms; $25,000 to the N.J. Department of Military & Veterans Affairs to provide emergency transportation of veterans home residents; $16,000 to Veterans Haven North for cafeteria and meeting room furniture; $30,000 to Veterans Haven South for a 15 passenger van; and $16,000 to renovate the BG William C. Doyle Cemetery Chapel restroom.

Donations are tax deductible and may be sent to The American Legion, Department of New Jersey, 171 Jersey St., Building 5, 2nd Floor, Trenton 08611.
