Monroe Township Police Department implements voluntary security camera registry

MONROE – The Monroe Township Police Department is initiating a Security Camera Registry.

This 100 percent voluntary program will encourage residents and business owners within the township to register their surveillance systems, which will increase safety and the reduction of crime, according to information provided by the police department.

Benefits of this program include expediting the retrieval of video footage, as well as allowing officers quicker resolutions and obtaining pertinent information. Moreover, it reduces time in canvassing areas attempting to locate surveillance systems, according to the statement.

Anyone registered with the program may be contacted by a member of the Monroe Township Police Department should a crime occur. This request may include examining the timeframe in question and the recordings the system has, according to the statement. This will be arranged at the person’s convenience and assistance provided if needed to access recordings, police said.

All information will be kept confidential. Only law enforcement officers will view footage. This program does not give police the ability to tap into any home or business surveillance feeds, according to the statement.

To register, view the form at monroetwppolice.org and drop off at police headquarters, fax, mail or email to cameras@monroetwppolice.org. Once completed, registration will be confirmed by an officer.
