The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office is employing new technology which provides fast and accurate device location data for 911 calls that are made from wireless phones.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, until recently, if a caller did not
have an exact address and used a cell phone, the location was not easy to determine.

“When it comes to dialing 911, every second counts and we are pleased to have such advanced technology implemented at the 911 Communications Center that will help ensure the utmost safety during an emergency,” Sheriff Shaun Golden said.

“Previously, wireless calls were difficult to pinpoint. Unlike landlines, they are not
connected to a specific address and dispatchers relied on the location of cell phone towers.

“Through Rapid SOS, Monmouth County is now able to receive fast and accurate caller location data during 911 calls placed from an IPhone with iOS 12 or from Android phones version 4.0 and up, which speeds up response time,” Golden said.

Approximately 80 percent of emergency 911 calls received at the Monmouth County 911 Communications Center are from mobile devices. The center processes more than 780,000 calls annually, according to the press release.

That is why location information enabled by Rapid SOS, a company which was created to
transform emergency communication through cutting edge technology, is vital during an
emergency call, since it saves time when dispatching first responders, according to the press release.

“The sheriff’s office is proud to continue to lead the way in public safety technology and is committed to seeking out ways to improve emergency response to our residents and visitors, faster and more efficiently,” Golden said.
