The North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee named Paul Walsh the Youth Advocate Award winner for 2018.

Walsh moved to North Brunswick in October 2000. He started coaching girls’ softball for the North Brunswick Baseball & Softball Association in 2001. He has been a member of the Board of Directors from 2003 to present. He was vice president from 2006-15, during which he improved coaching and training, improved equipment and uniforms, adopted new rules, implemented best practices and increased parent involvement. He continued to grow the program from a few teams to a multi-division, multi-age group organization with participation from ages five to 16, according to a proclamation read in his honor during the Dec. 3 North Brunswick Township Council Meeting.

Walsh improved recreation play by forming multi-town girls’ softball league play with area towns. In 2007, he was influential in bringing girls travel softball play back to North Brunswick hosting the first tournament at Sabella Park. He also led the efforts to bring the Northern New Jersey Babe Ruth Girls’ Softball Tournaments to North Brunswick, including holding multiple district tournaments and the Northern New Jersey Babe Ruth State Softball Tournament Championships to North Brunswick in 2015, according to the proclamation.

Walsh is the executive committee member (treasurer) of the Youth Sports Festival, and is also a member and trustee of the Adams Athletic and Social Club in North Brunswick.
