Police: Vehicle collision closes down Route 130 on New Year’s Eve

The Bordentown Township Police closed down Route 130 for several hours on New Year’s Eve after officials reported that a motorist had attempted to flee a vehicle stop and struck a concrete divider.

At approximately 8:12 p.m. police officials said a department patrolman attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on a blue Hyundai Sonata for a speeding violation on Rising Sun Road in the area the Petro Truck Stop.

According to the police report, the vehicle failed to stop and tried to escape the scene, traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Rising Sun Road. Officials said the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed and when it reached the intersection of Rising Sun Road and Route 130, the driver lost control of the car, which then went airborne and collided with a concrete divider.

After the collision with the concrete divider, officials reported that the vehicle began to flip and then struck a utility pole and a mailbox before coming to an uncontrolled stop on its side off the roadway.

Police said that the driver then climbed through the sun roof of the vehicle and was tended to by responding officers for injuries he sustained in the collision.

The driver was identified as a 24-year-old male from Trenton and was transported to Helene Fuld Medical Center in Trenton for treatment following the incident, according to officials.

The police reported to close down Route 130 southbound for several hours as a result of the incident due to an investigation and debris cleanup.

Officials also said that several vehicles that were traveling southbound on Route 130 at the time of the incident sustained damage to their undercarriage after driving over concrete sections of the median immediately following the collision.

Criminal charges and motor vehicle offenses are said to be filed upon completion of the investigation.
