Princeton U hoops
The Princeton University men’s basketball team opened the Ivy League season with a 68-65 overtime victory over Penn last Saturday at Jadwin Gym. Rich Aririguzoh had 20 points to lead four Tigers in double-figure scoring. Devin Cannady scored 12 points, while Myles Stephens sank 11 and Jerome Desrosiers put in 10. Princeton, which improved to 8-5 overall, will play at Penn on Saturday.
The Princeton women fell to Penn, 66-60, last Saturday at Jadwin Gym in their Ivy League opener. Bella Alarie collected 21 points and 17 rebounds in the loss for the Tigers. Princeton, which is 8-8 overall, had a seven-game win streak snapped with the loss. The Tigers are off until they play at Columbia on Feb. 1.
Princeton U hockey
The Princeton University women’s hockey team ran its unbeaten streak to 16 with victories at Harvard and Dartmouth last weekend. Maggie Connors scored twice in a 4-1 triumph at Harvard, while Connors and Sarah Fillier each scored twice in a 5-1 decision at Dartmouth. Princeton, which improved to 12-2-4, will play at Cornell on Friday and Colgate on Saturday.
The Princeton men’s fell to 5-10-2 after suffering a pair of losses last weekend at Baker Rink. Matthew Thom had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 loss to Cornell. Alex Riche, Mark Paolini and Max Veronneau each had a goal in a 4-3 loss to Colgate. The Tigers will Harvard on Friday and Dartmouth on Saturday at Baker Rink.
Princeton High track
The Princeton High boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed at the Marine Corps Holiday Classic at the NYC Armory on Dec. 29 and at the CVC Relays on Jan. 2. At the Marine Corps Holiday Classic, senior Nils Wildberg opened his season with a 23-4.5 long jump, the best jump in New Jersey this year and also a US No. 4 mark. Senior Acasio Pinheiro finished third in the mile with an New Jersey No. 1 time of 4:24, while juniors Matt Perello (22.81) and Colleen Linko (26.75) recorded an indoor personal bests in the 200 meters.
At the CVC Relays, the distance medley relay of Tucker Zullo, Jackson McCarthy, Matt Perello and Pinheiro placed first in 10:42.83. Paul Brennan also won the shot put, extending his New Jersey No. 1 distance to 54-11.5. On the girls’ side, the quartet of Linko, Raina Williamson, Kendall Williamson and Gabby Goddard won two events, taking the 4×200 in 1:49.29 and winning the 4×400 in 4:08.30.
COLLEGE
Evan Barratt
The former Hun School ice hockey player has 13 goals an 16 assists for the Penn State University ice hockey team. Barratt, a sophomore, scored three goals in a 7-6 victory over Michigan earlier this season. After playing two seasons at Hun, Barratt played two seasons with the United States National Team Development Program in the United States Hockey League. He was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round of the 2017 NHL draft.
Penn State is 12-6-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the Big Ten. The ninth-ranked Nittany Lions will be home to Michigan State on Friday and Saturday.
