Youngkin resigns as freeholder

Burlington County Freeholder Director Tom Pullion announced on Jan. 2 that George Youngkin has submitted a letter of resignation and is anticipated to resign from his position on the freeholder board, effective immediately.

“I have received and accepted George Youngkin’s letter of resignation and he will no longer be serving on the Board of Chosen Freeholders,” Pullion said. “We wish George the best in his future endeavors.”

In the event of a vacancy, the party, which controls that seat, appoints a replacement to serve in the seat until the general election.

From there, county officials said a special election is to be held to fill the remaining two years of the seat’s three-year term.
