UPPER FREEHOLD – The members of the Township Committee in Upper Freehold Township have voted to keep their mayor from 2018 in place for 2019.
At the governing body’s annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 2, Committeeman Stephen Alexander, who served as mayor in 2018, was elected by his fellow committee members to serve as mayor for 2019.
In Upper Freehold’s form of government, the mayor is not directly elected by the public. The mayor is selected by the members of the governing body each January to serve a one-year term.
Alexander, an attorney, joined the Township Committee in 2004. He is the longest-serving member of the governing body.
Elected to serve as deputy mayor for 2019 was Committeewoman LoriSue Mount, who joined the committee in 2008.
The elections for mayor and deputy mayor were held after Alexander and Robert Faber, the winning candidates in the November 2018 municipal election, were sworn in to begin serving new three-year terms on the committee.
Republicans hold all five seats on the governing body. Serving with Alexander, Mount and Faber are Robert Frascella and Stanley Moslowski.
