The Monmouth County Historical Association (MCHA) Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Meg Sharp Walton as executive director. Walton will begin her tenure on Feb. 1.
Walton joins the historical association with 15 years of executive experience in cultural museums and historic sites in the greater Philadelphia region, according to a press release.
Most recently as the executive director of Glen Foerd on the Delaware, she developed and implemented new programs and initiatives that revitalized this significant landmark and park into a mission driven community asset; expanding knowledge of the important heritage while connecting this legacy to relevant contemporary interests and effectively using the site to promote the arts and environmental stewardship, according to the press release.
Hailing from Middlesex County, Walton has a familiarity and affection for New Jersey and its rich history, according to the press release. She has spent extensive time in Monmouth County and has an affinity for the area and its heritage. Walton, her husband, who grew up in Monmouth County, and their family will be relocating to the county, according to the press release.
“Monmouth County’s sandy beaches, green pastures and vibrant towns, both large and small, reflect the diversity of its history,” Walton said. “I look forward to capturing and sharing that history through partnerships and innovative programs that reach all corners of the county and tell the stories of all its citizens.”
The Monmouth County Historical Association operates a museum, archives and research library at its headquarters in Freehold Borough, in addition to five historic house museums throughout the county that tell the story of the founding of the country, according to the press release.
