The 27-year prison term Nigro received in New Brunswick by Superior Court Judge Colleen M. Flynn is subject to the No Early Release Act. As such, the defendant will have to serve 85 percent of his prison term before becoming eligible for parole.

In addition, the defendant must serve five years parole supervision upon his release from prison. The judge also ordered the defendant to pay $8,000 in restitution to the family of Giorgina Nigro, according to the statement.

The sentence was imposed in accordance with a plea agreement reached with Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Scott Lamountain and Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Kirsten Fochtman. On Dec. 3, 2018, Nigro admitted to bludgeoning to death his wife. An autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the victim died from blunt force and sharp force trauma.

Nigro was charged following an investigation by Detective Andrew Kondracki of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Craig Marchak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
