Town will supply rock salt to school board

MILLSTONE – Approximately 20 tons of rock salt will be sold to the Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education by Millstone Township.

On Jan. 2, Township Committee members passed a resolution ratifying the purchase of granular sodium chloride treated with liquid magnesium chloride and sodium chloride (rock salt).

According to the resolution, the committee sought to award a contract for a salt mixture and special rock salt mixture from an authorized vendor under the Monmouth County cooperative program. The resolution states that the cost for the materials was not to exceed $100,000.

After passing the resolution for the contract, the committee passed a resolution authorizing a commodity resale agreement between the township and the school board. The agreement became effective Jan. 1 and will remain in effect until Dec. 31.

According to the agreement, Millstone Township will provide the board an estimated 20 tons of rock salt. If the board’s consumption of the rock salt exceeds that amount, the township will bill the board for the actual amount of tonnage used.

The rate for the board to use the rock salt will be a combination of the contract cost the township pays and a 15 percent administrative charge on the amount of rock salt supplied.
