West Long Branch kindergarten registration set for Feb. 20, 21

Betty McElmon Elementary School Kindergarten Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will take place in the Media Center on Feb. 20 and 21.

On Feb. 20, registration will take place from 9-11:30 a.m. for children whose last names begin with the letters A-M. Registration for children whose last names begin with N-Z will take place from 1-2:30 p.m.

To accommodate working parents, registration will also take place from 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 21.

In order for a child to be eligible for kindergarten, a child must be five years old, or have reached their fifth birthday on or before Oct. 1, 2019. Parents should not bring their children to registration. Parents will be notified about kindergarten orientation for their children at a later date.

When registering a child for kindergarten, parents must present three current proofs of residency. This includes a valid driver’s license, a property tax bill or mortgage statement, a current lease (if renting a unit), and a utility bill. The child’s original birth certificate and inoculation record are also required.

The requirements for the inoculation record are as follows:

  1. D.P.T. – Four original and a booster (one dose administered after the fourth birthday).
  2. Polio – Three original and a booster (one dose administered after the fourth birthday).
  3. Rubella/Measles/Mumps – First dose of MMR at 12-18 months of age. Second dose before admittance to kindergarten.
  4. Mantoux Test for tuberculosis- Required for children coming from certain countries. Check with the school office for further information.
  5. Hepatitis B vaccine – Must have three by the first day of school.
  6. Varicella vaccine for chicken pox – Mandatory unless the child had the disease.
  7. Recent physical examination mandated by the state.
