Holocaust survivors to recount stories of atrocities, recovery during talk at East Brunswick Library

Holocaust survivors of Kristalnacht, Eugene and Ruth Gottleib, East Brunswick residents, will discuss their perspective and experiences at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at the East Brunswick Library, Civic Center Drive, East Brunswick.
As immigrants to America, they had to absorb the revelations that family members had been lost, as well as adjust to a country with its new language and culture.
Eugene Gottleib, author of “From a Wine Barrel and Chicken Coops to Silicon on Sapphire,” shares the story of hiding in a wine barrel during Kristalnacht, immigrating to Woodbine where he was raised on a poultry farm, and ultimately becoming a scientist.
Ruth Heilbronn Gottleib, author of “Once We Had a Country,” retells her experience of Nazis breaking into her home during the first night of Kristalnacht and terrorizing her and her mother. She and her mother then immigrated to America to join her father. She was a teacher for many years in the East Brunswick school system.
The event is sponsored by East Brunswick Hadassah.
