Bordentown City residents can help raise money for their furry neighbors in the area as the non-profit organization, Bordentown City Cats, and the HOB (Heart of Bordentown) Tavern will soon team up to sponsor a fundraiser event on Feb. 2.

Started in 2002, Bordentown City Cats was founded to address the outside cat problem in the local area. Since its formation, the organization, which is now a 501(c)(3), has become involved in rescuing stray and abandoned cats, trapping and socializing feral kittens so they can be adopted as well as trapping, neutering and returning (TNR) cats that cannot be domesticated into a safe outdoor environment.

Since the non-profit relies on the generosity of supporters, the HOB Tavern said it will dedicate a portion of its proceeds from their sales the night of the fundraiser event, which will begin at 5 p.m.

“[The event] is to bring people together and remind them that there’s a situation with cats in town and that it costs money to take care of them,” said Mary Ann Kieffer, a member of the Bordentown City Cats organization.

Alongside a portion of the tavern’s sales, Kieffer said jars will be set out and checks will be accepted to collect money for the organization as well as a famous painting by a local artist to be put on display.

Given that clients of the organization depend on it for help, particularly with the financial costs associated with caretaking for their cats, donations are always welcome and needed regarding personal help with veterinarian expenses, money or food.

“The direct money goes to vet bills right now and a feeding bill,” Kieffer said. “If a client calls us and says, ‘My cat’s sick. I have no money,’ we will help them.”

Alongside money donations, the organization also welcomes volunteers over the age of 18 who can foster, transport cats to-and-from veterinarians, assist in trapping and help with fundraiser events.

You can contact Bordentown City Cats on Facebook or Twitter for more information, call at 609-500-0608 or email btowncitycats@gmail.com.

The HOB Tavern is located at 146 2nd St. in Bordentown.
