Freehold Borough school board revises construction contract

FREEHOLD – The Freehold Borough K-8 School District Board of Education has authorized increases totaling $60,019 in the contract for the district’s recently completed expansion and renovation project.

On Jan. 7, board members approved three change orders totaling $39,054 in a contract with G&P Parlamas for additions and renovations at the Park Avenue Complex, Park Avenue. The complex houses the Park Avenue Elementary School and the Freehold Intermediate School.

On Jan. 22, another change order was approved by the board, in the amount of $20,965. The change order was for materials and labor to install short-term projector wiring at 17 locations in the Park Avenue Complex.

With 16 change orders approved since the project commenced, the original $17.82 million contract now totals $18.23 million for work at the Park Avenue Complex.

The board’s approval of the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th change orders follows the completion of a construction project to expand the district’s two facilities: the Freehold Learning Center elementary school, Dutch Lane Road, and the Park Avenue Complex.

A ceremony to recognize the completion of the project was held on Dec. 4, 2018. The total cost of the work at the two locations was estimated at $33 million.

In other business, board members accepted a $45,000 proposal from architect William Hopkins for the design of and specifications related to the removal and replacement of existing heating, ventilation and air conditioning units in 10 classrooms, the special services office, and a portion of the school board offices at the Park Avenue Elementary School. The cost of the work is estimated at $618,000, according to district administrators.

And, board members accepted a $15,000 proposal from Hopkins for the design of and specifications related to a garage at the Park Avenue Complex. The cost of the work is estimated at $119,000 and is expected to include a new garage, footings, site demolition and electric work, according to district administrators.
