Documentary exposes effects of plastic on the environment

SCOTT FRIEDMAN
Ladies cover their challahs with plastic wrap to allow the dough to rise during the Middlesex County Great Big Challah Bake, held at the Congregation B'Nai Tikvah in South Brunswick on November 3.

The 2010 award-winning documentary,“Bag It: Is your Life Too Plastic?” will be screened at the East Brunswick Public Library at 7 p.m. on March 6.

The film exposes the effects that plastic bags and other plastic consumer items have on the environment and the human body.

Following the film, a discussion will be led by Liti Haramaty, a marine researcher at Rutgers University and board member of the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission. The Friends initiated the “Plastic-Free EB” campaign last year to reduce the use of plastic bags in the township.

The screening is part of the Option Green lecture series presented by the Friends in partnership with the library.

The program is free and open to the public. Children 8 and older are welcome to attend.

The library is located on Civic Center Drive, off Ryders Lane, East Brunswick.
