SAYREVILLE – Following the announcements of their retirements, longtime staff members in the Sayreville School District have been recognized for their service to the district.
On Jan. 15, the Board of Education honored the retirement of Kerry Haney, a paraprofessional at Emma L. Arleth Elementary School. Her retirement will become effective at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year, on July 1.
According to Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe, Haney has served the district for 22 years and began her career in Sayreville as a substitute teacher for two years. She later became a paraprofessional at Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School and Sayreville Middle School before joining Arleth.
At a Feb. 5 meeting, Labbe said, “After 22 wonderful hardworking years, Mrs. Kerry Haney has decided to retire from the Sayreville School District to spend time with her family, including her first grandchild who is on the way.
“She has been an important figure at the Arleth Elementary School, particularly with the staff, and has been a leader among her colleagues,” he said. “Many new teachers, in fact, reach out to her for advice and support as she is always welcoming and honest. She has brought so much energy to Arleth and has worked tirelessly to ensure her students get the very best support they possibly can.
“Kerry will be truly missed and we wish her all the best in her retirement,” the superintendent said.
During a recent meeting, board members also honored the retirement of Darlene Beadling, a custodian at the middle school. Her retirement became effective on Dec. 1, 2018.
“She has always been a very pleasant team player,” Labbe said. “She is always smiling, asking how everyone is and willing to help anyone in need. Darlene will truly be missed by everyone who knows her, particularly her colleagues and the staff at the Sayreville Middle School. We wish her good health in retirement years ahead and we thank her for her outstanding service to our district and the indirect or direct impact that she has made on all of our students and staff.”
Board President Kevin Ciak added, “I’d like to congratulate Darlene on her retirement. When you talk about underappreciated jobs in the Sayreville Public Schools, being a custodian, in particular at the middle school level, is certainly one of those jobs. So I’d like to thank her for her commitment to Sayreville.”
To succeed Beadling, board members approved the employment of Ana Bajana Morante as a custodian at the middle school, with a 3-11 p.m. shift and a prorated salary of $28,500 for the 2018-19 school year.
