The Florence Township School District will sponsor two Referendum Fairs on Feb. 24 in advance of a March 12 vote on a two-question bond proposal.

Staff and students will guide visitors through the two schools where most of the work is proposed. Tours will review improvements proposed for gyms, instructional spaces, bathrooms and other areas.

Guests will be invited to see the current state of the deteriorating facilities at Roebling Elementary and Riverfront Middle School first-hand, and to discuss proposal details with administrators, school board members and architects.

A voter-approved $24.1 million, two-question bond referendum would fund projects to meet the educational and extracurricular needs of each student while improving facilities for community use.

The school district officials are asking taxpayers to vote on funding for critical facility upgrades and repairs.

According to district officials, an approved two-question bond referendum would fund projects to meet the educational and extracurricular needs of each student, while also improving the facilities for community use.

“A Citizens Task Force is meeting each week to plan and carry out an informational campaign,” Florence Schools Superintendent Donna Ambrosius said in a statement. “We are preparing a postcard to be sent to every home in the township, and planning a Referendum Fair to give residents an inside look.”

Voters must approve Question 1 for the bond referendum in order to pass Question 2.

Question 1, which district officials said totals $21.5 million, includes projects aimed to enhance security and modernize the aging school facilities.

Question 2, which district officials revealed totals $2.6 million, includes projects aimed to enhance the grounds of school facilities.

The scheduled time for the Roebling Elementary tour is noon – 2 p.m. The school is located at 1330 Hornberger Ave. in Roebling.

The scheduled time for the Riverfront Middle School tour is 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. The school is located at 500 East Front Street in Florence.
