JaZams, a toy store located in Princeton, will feature a ‘pop-up’ event this month.
It is a pop-up that will have a community concert for children and their families on March 2 at store, which is located at 11 Hulfish St.
Pop-ups are temporary unexpected events in unique spaces and stores.
The Princeton Palmer Square store has been in business at its current location for more than 10 years. The toy store initially opened in 1996 on Hulfish Street.
“The pop-up is the result of doing a renovation at our 25 Palmer Square East location. So we are closed at our current location and are now renovating,” JaZams co-owner Joanne Farrugia said.
The pop-up location on Hulfish Street is in the old building location of women’s fashion accessories store ‘Zoe’ and received its first customer at 11 a.m. on Feb. 25.
The renovations will consist of raising the ceiling, getting new lighting and shelving. The pop-up event for JaZams will continue until the renovations are done at the store’s Palmer Square location.
The community concert will begin at 5 p.m. on March 2 and star Lolly and YoYo.
“Because we are crazy we decided on the community concert,” Farrugia said. “We had this gigantic space being given to us for the pop-up. We could not possibly fill up the space with product because it is so big. We decided then let’s do something fun in a kind an open space. We have a great relationship with this band called Lolly and YoYo, so we asked them if they could come with their full band and do a little concert for us.”
The concert is free for anyone who attends.
“I think anyone who comes to our concert on Saturday will enjoy it. We hope the more the merrier,” she said.
JaZams is both a toy and book store. The store is for all ages.
“We think everyone should have fun in their life. We go up to adults. We have strategy games and puzzles that go as high as 32,000 pieces. We have everything for everybody,” she said.
Farrugia and her husband Dean Smith own the toy store. They were able to have all of their inventory from the store moved into the new pop-up location by the early hours of Feb. 25.
“I hope people will be able to take away from our pop-up that we are still invested in the community. We are here for the long haul and hopefully the community will continue to support us, a local community store.” Farrugia said.
