The Colts Neck High School Mock Trial Team won the Monmouth County Vincent J. Apruzzese Mock Trial Competition held at the Monmouth County Courthouse, Freehold Borough. The two-week tournament culminated in a win that will send the team to the regional tournament to be held at the New Jersey State Bar Association headquarters. The students will be competing at the regional competition for a spot in the statewide competition. The students on Colts Neck’s winning team are Alexandria Henderson, Brian Perlstein, Brooke Lumer, Cassandra Dalton, Chloe McAloon, Dennis Abate, Dylan Cohen, Ghadeer Lamah, Nick Fischer and Ty Blitstein. Guiding the group is teacher and coach Holly Lucarelli. The team’s attorney coach is William Visone.

The Manalapan-Englishtown Community Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse has set a new date for its open house program. The new date is March 5 at Manalapan High School, 20 Church Lane, Manalapan. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the program will follow at 7:15 p.m. The alliance wants to mobilize a community effort to battle alcoholism and drug abuse. All residents and business operators in Manalapan and Englishtown are welcome to attend. Parents who want to bring their teenage children are encouraged to attend to help broach or broaden their in-home conversations about drugs and alcohol. The program will feature a presentation by Crystal Wytenus, director of care management for Bergen’s Promise, a designated care management organization in Bergen County working with youth with serious behavioral health challenges, substance abuse issues and developmental disabilities. The Manalapan-Englishtown Community Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse will host its fifth annual Project Zero 5K fun run/walk on April 27 at the Manalapan Recreation Center, Route 522. The event will raise awareness and money for the alliance’s efforts to educate the community about the dangers and consequences of drug abuse and alcoholism. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the race will begin at 9:30 a.m., rain or shine. The registration fee is $20 for participants over 18 and $50 for families of three or more until April 19. Youths under 18 can register for $15. The fees increase after April 19. There are team rates available, call the Manalapan Health Department for more information. All race participants who register prior to April 19 are guaranteed a race T-shirt. The event is designed to be fun, but recognition medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in four categories: men, women, girls 14 and under, and boys 14 and under. With support of the local running group Gone Running, all runners will be timed.
