Manalapan couple killed in Old Bridge crash

OLD BRIDGE – A Manalapan couple was killed in a motor vehicle collision in Old Bridge, Middlesex County, on the morning of Feb. 25.

Old Bridge police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash which involved three vehicles, Capt. Scott Gumprecht said.

The incident occurred at 5:50 a.m. on Route 9 north between the Route 18 interchange and Spring Valley Road, police said.

Police said a 2003 Honda Pilot being driven by a 34-year-old male resident of Manalapan allegedly struck the rear of a 2013 Toyota Prius. The driver of the Prius was a 37-year-old male resident of Manalapan.

Two rear seat passengers in the Prius, Grigory Deli, 72, and Margarita Deli, 71, were also from Manalapan, according to police. The couple were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third vehicle, a 2004 Nissan Altima being driven by a 47-year-old male resident of Staten Island, N.Y., was also involved in the incident, police said.

The drivers of the Prius and the Altima were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, and treated for what police described as non-life threatening injuries.

Police said charges will be determined upon the completion of the investigation. The Old Bridge Police Department is asking anyone with information about the fatal crash to contact Police Officer Henry Penley at 732-679-5959.
