Lamparelli, Aizley represent Allentown at state wrestling tournament

On Feb. 28 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, Joey Lamparelli made his third straight appearance in the state wrestling tournament.

One day later, Jasmine Aizley wrestled in New Jersey’s first state girls’ wrestling tournament.

For the Allentown High School teammates, reaching Atlantic City was a big accomplishment. But both fell short of winning state titles.

After a 7-1 decision in the first round, Lamparelli dropped his next two matches in the 113-pound class. His second defeat, a 4-2 decision to Bergen Catholic High School’s Nick Kayal, prevented Lamparelli from placing.

Aizley earned a bye in the quarterfinals and a close victory, 8-7, in the semifinals at 110 pounds. But in the championship bout, Aizley fell to Parsippany High School’s Sydney Petzinger by major decision, 10-0. It was her first loss of the season to a female, after 14 straight victories.

Both Allentown teammates are juniors though, so they will have another chance to win state titles next winter.
