The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County, Freehold Township, will present “50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. And Mrs. Kraus” by Dr. Erwin Tepper at 2 p.m. April 28. This is a program about a group of 50 Jewish children, 25 boys and 25 girls, who in 1939 were brought out of Europe’s inferno by a philanthropic organization, Beth Sholom. The organization ensued with a Philadelphia attorney, Gilbert, and his wife Eleanor. CentraState Healthcare Foundation hosted its 57th annual Celebration Ball at South Gate Manor, Freehold, on Feb. 2. More than $250,000 was raised to benefit Rutgers/RWJ Family Medicine Residency Program at CentraState in the new Freehold Family Health Center. This annual event honored the VNA Health Group, Special Strides and Joseph Iantosca for their commitment to CentraState Healthcare System and the community. The event was co-chaired by Dr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Friedenberg, Rob Kash, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Mattia, with more than 300 guests in attendance. The new Freehold Family Health Center will provide access to health care through an academic community partnership that is responsive to the cultural and linguistic diversity of populations in the service area, providing holistic family-centered care, according to a press release. “Life in the Soil: Dig Deeper” is the theme for the 2019 conservation poster contest
sponsored by the Freehold Soil Conservation District and the New Jersey Association of
Conservation Districts. Students in second through 12th grade in Middlesex and Monmouth counties are encouraged to learn about the importance of soil, according to a press release. Almost all of the minerals and nutrients people need for life and to keep them healthy come from fields, gardens, trees and pastures. By creating a poster, students can highlight their artistic talents while exploring their connections to the natural world. Prizes include $100, $75 and $50 cash awards. All first place district level posters will be submitted to the state level competition where one grand champion poster will be chosen and reproduced onto a pocket folder and distributed statewide. Three Monmouth County 4-H members recently attended the State 4-H Small Animal Educational Symposium held in Clayton, Gloucester County. “The State 4-H Small Animal Educational Symposium is an annual event, now in its sixth year, that offers 4-H’ers an opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in topics related to poultry, reptiles, small animals, cavy (guinea pigs) and rabbits. In addition, the event provides a venue to meet 4-H members from around the state,” said Jeannette Rea Keywood, liaison to New Jersey 4-H Youth Development Program Small Animal Project Advisory Council. The Monmouth County 4-H members joined nearly 75 4-H participants representing 13 counties. The Monmouth County participants were Salvatore Montecalvo and Vincenzo Montecalvo from Marlboro, and Isabella Schwank from Spring Lake, according to a press release. “We are excited that 4-H members from Monmouth County had an opportunity to take part in this valuable educational experience and we look forward to them sharing what they learned with 4-H’ers in our county,” said Matthew Newman, Monmouth County 4-H agent. Activities and events held at the symposium included a 4-H Rabbit Hopping Exhibition and the 4-H Small Animal Project Art Show. Workshop topics included rabbit management, tattooing, diseases, showmanship, conditioning, breeds and more, according to the press release.
The Manalapan-Englishtown Community Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse will host its fifth annual Project Zero 5K fun run/walk on April 27 at the Manalapan Recreation Center, Route 522. The event will raise awareness and money for the alliance’s efforts to educate the community about the dangers and consequences of drug abuse and alcoholism. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the race will begin at 9:30 a.m., rain or shine. The registration fee is $20 for participants over 18 and $50 for families of three or more until April 19. Youths under 18 can register for $15. The fees increase after April 19. There are team rates available, call the Manalapan Health Department for more information. All race participants who register prior to April 19 are guaranteed a race T-shirt. The event is designed to be fun, but recognition medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in four categories: men, women, girls 14 and under, and boys 14 and under.
