Since 2003, the Women’s Club at Westlake has sponsored a women’s scholarship program that offers financial assistance to female residents of Jackson. To date, the club has awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships to more than 60 women, according to a press release.
Once again, the club is offering scholarships to qualified female Jackson residents who have
been accepted into a post-high school educational or training program and who meet any one of the following criteria:
• Currently completing high school;
• Currently attending a college, university, or trade school;
• Currently working and planning to enroll in a program to enhance skills, make a career
change, or desiring further education;
• Not working, but desiring job training skills or retraining;
• Registered in public school or vocational school in a continuing education program.

Applications are also available through the Jackson Library, the guidance offices of Jackson Liberty High School and Jackson Memorial High School, Ocean County Vo-Tech and the financial aid offices at Ocean County College, Toms River, and Georgian Court University, Lakewood. The deadline to submit an application is May 1.
The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County, Freehold Township, will present “50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. And Mrs. Kraus” by Dr. Erwin Tepper at 2 p.m. April 28. Admission is $8 for museum members and $10 for non-members. This is a program about a group of 50 Jewish children, 25 boys and 25 girls, who in 1939 were brought out of Europe’s inferno by a philanthropic organization, Beth Sholom. The organization ensued with a Philadelphia attorney, Gilbert, and his wife Eleanor. Through great difficulties with all the governments involved, these children were brought to the United States, according to a press release. The Jackson Liberty High School jazz band began its 2019 season the same way it left off last year, by winning. Band members recently traveled to Hamilton West High School in Hamilton Township to compete in the first jazz competition of the year. The band earned first place, was awarded best overall band, best trumpet section, best saxophone section, best overall improvisation, best soloist and outstanding musician award for Anthony Demateis, according to a press release. Jackson Liberty was the only group that received superior ratings. The jazz band will travel to and perform at the Strand Theater in Lakewood this year and participate in eight more competitions throughout the state. The jazz band will host a jazz festival from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 13 at Jackson Liberty High School, Jackson. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
