South Brunswick Parent Academy will hold workshops on social media, substance abuse

The South Brunswick Parent Academy workshop series will offer two repeat workshops addressing timely and critical issues facing parents today.

The first workshop, the Social Media Symposium III, will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 23 at Crossroads Middle School North, 635 Georges Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.

Complimentary breakfast and registration begin at 8:15 am.

Offered for the third year in a row, this workshop will provide parents and students with information and strategies for setting controls and limits on children’s use of social media and technology.

“Hidden in Plain Sight,” an important workshop on the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse for children, will be presented by Douglas Collier, retired Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent and Monmouth University professor of Criminal Justice, from 7-8:30 p.m. on March 25.

This hands-on, interactive workshop will provide parents with key information on the latest substance abuse trends, signs and symptoms, as well on how alcohol, drugs and paraphernalia can be easily hidden in plain sight in a teenager’s bedroom, bathroom and other locations within a home or car, often right under the noses of unsuspecting parents or adults.

Due to the sensitive nature of the workshop, no one under the age of 21 will be permitted to attend the workshop. However, childcare will be available for this workshop.
