NORTH BRUNSWICK – The FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition season started on March 9 and 10 for North Brunswick Township High School’s FRC Team 25 Raider Robotix.

At the Mount Olive Regional High School, during the FIRST MidAtlantic (FMA) District event, Raider Robotix members competed with 37 high school-aged robotics teams from around the New Jersey/Pennsylvania region with Team 25’s new Evil Machine 17.

The robot has been designed to play the space-themed game, FIRST Destination: Deep Space SM, according to information provided by the team. It can pick up playing pieces to place on the elements on the playing field, and has the ability to climb a low riser at the end of the match to score extra points.

At Mount Olive, Raider Robotix finished as the No. 4 seeded team at the end of qualification rounds and was selected by the No. 3 seeded team, FRC Team 2590 Nemesis, of Robbinsville, along with FRC Team 1989 Viking Robotics, of Vernon, to form Alliance No. 3, according to the statement.

Alliance No. 3 emerged undefeated from the quarterfinals, 2-0. During semifinals Alliance No. 3 was pitted against Alliance No. 2, formed by FRC Team 2577 Pingry Robotics, of Basking Ridge, FRC Team 222 Tigertrons, of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, and FRC Team 6943 Blue Bears of Newark. During the semifinals, Alliance No. 3 was defeated, 0-2, by Alliance No. 2.
