MONROE – A fox tested positive for rabies in Monroe in the vicinity of Garvey Drive and Spotswood Gravel Hill Road.
This is the first (1) rabid animal reported within Middlesex County for 2019 and the first (1) rabid animal in Monroe.
On March 1, the animal control officer for Monroe responded to a property where a fox was killed by two pet dogs at a resident’s home, according to information provided by the Middlesex County Office of Health Services.
The fox was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing. It was reported on March 5 that the animal tested positive for rabies.
There were no known human exposures but two domestic animal exposures to the fox, according to officials. The resident’s dogs are currently up to date on their rabies vaccinations, according to the statement.
