A South Brunswick man was found guilty by a jury on March 20 for second-degree eluding after fleeing from police following a motor vehicle stop.

Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Keith Abrams and Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Deanna Himelson presented evidence and testimony showing that Alan Fratello, 47, after being stopped for erratic driving, grabbed the necktie of a police officer, and sped away in an attempt to flee the scene, according to information presented during a six-day trial that began on March 7, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey.

Fratello is facing an extended prison term of up to 20 years due to his prior criminal convictions when he is sentenced in New Brunswick on May 17 by Superior Court Judge Diane Pincus.

He was convicted with the assistance of the South Brunswick Police Department and Detective Olivia Ankudowicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, according to the statement.

It was determined that on June 12, 2018, Fratello was driving a Kia Sorento traveling north on Route 130, then east on Route 32 in South Brunswick. He was driving erratically when he was stopped by police, according to reports. After the initial stop, he fled by driving across the median onto Route 32 west. He surrendered to the South Brunswick Police Department the next day.
