Locals and youths are invited to experience the Roebling legacy this weekend through the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning program this weekend at the Roebling Museum.

In celebration of New Jersey Makers Day, honoring maker culture across the Garden State, the Roebling Museum will be hosting an event in accordance with this day for all-ages to connect individuals with libraries, schools, businesses, independent makerspaces that support making, tinkering, crafting, manufacturing and STEM-based learning.

The NJ Makers Day event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 23. Admission is $5 dollars per person. Youths that are five-years-old and under are admitted for free. Pre-registration is encouraged, but is not required.

According to the museum’s staff, the primary goal of the event is to enhance community engagement and facilitate connections among New Jersey residents by exploring new and interesting opportunities for community-wide education, entrepreneurship and hands-on learning experiences.

Kids and their families can join the Roebling Museum for a variety of activities, including mobiles with yarn and craft sticks, designing their own “art-bots,” and casting and building activities.

Museum staff and volunteers will help children and their families experience a day of interactive projects that teach STEAM concepts in new and interesting ways.

Intended to be more than just fun and games though, the museum staff said that families who attend Makers Day can enjoy becoming junior engineers and designers as they learn, play and turn STEAM ideas and concepts into tangible experiences.

Also on Makers Day, the Roebling Museum said it will present another installment of its monthly, Saturday Lecture Series.

Visitors are encouraged to attend a discussion and book signing with Tadzio Koelb, author of the book, “Trenton Makes.” The lecture begins at 1 p.m., $7 General Admission; $6 Museum Members (Admission for the lecture will include Makers Day).

The Roebling Museum is located at 100 Second Ave. in Roebling. Ample parking is available in the museum lot off Hornberger Avenue, adjacent to the Roebling River Line parking area.

The River Line has a Roebling stop just behind the museum. Visitors are encouraged not to park on 2nd Ave., on the residential side of the building.
