Bordentown City Cats’ fundraiser event returns in April

Returning back to Bordentown City this April after a two-year hiatus is the Bordentown City Cats’ (BCC) long-running flea market fundraiser.

The group’s officials said that the event will include a new and expanded line-up featuring new and used goods, artisan crafts, antiques, cat-centric items and unique vendors.

The local event will take place on April 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carslake Community Center, located at 207 Crosswicks St. in Bordentown City.

The BCC said that all proceeds from the event will benefit the group’s continuing efforts to rescue, foster, adopt and provide medical treatment to Bordentown’s stray and feral cat population.

“We launched this event back in 2003 to raise funds to support our rescue efforts and it grew in popularity for many years,” said Mak Kieffer, one of the group’s founders. “We took a brief break the last two years to take stock of people’s changing interests and now we’re back with a revamped line-up that includes some long-running favorites, like our treasure trove of used finds, as well as new additions like artisan crafts, popular cat-centric goods and other unique vendors.”

The group’s officials said that residents, crafters and business owners can get involved with the event in one of two ways. One way, according to BCC, is that people are encouraged to rent space to sell new or used goods. The cost to rent a space is $25. The BCC said that anyone interested must contact the group to reserve a space and pay in advance.

Carslake Community Center will be open the night before from 4-7 p.m. for advance set-up.

BCC officials said that another to get involved is by donating old items or baked goods that can be sold with the proceeds going to benefit the group; or by donating gift certificates or items from area businesses that can be auctioned off as prizes.

“The beauty of the event is that all proceeds go to benefit the control of Bordentown’s stray cat population through the humane efforts of an enlightened community,” Kieffer said.

Among the multiple efforts that the flea market supports is the fostering and adoption of Bordentown’s homeless cat population as well.

Anyone interested in renting a space, making a donation to the event, or adopting a cat, should email the group at btowncitycats@gmail.com or visit www.bordentowncitycats.blogspot.com.
