NORTH BRUNSWICK – Coinciding with the advent of spring, and with Earth Day just around the corner, members of the North Brunswick Open Space Committee were present during the reading of a proclamation focused on protecting the environment.

During the March 18 Township Council meeting, council members encouraged residents to participate in several activities planned to mark April 22 as Earth Day.

Applications are being accepted for the North Brunswick Community Garden, located at the Pulda Farm at 300 Old Georges Road off of Route 130. North Brunswick residents can reserve space for a family garden to grow herbs, produce and flowers.

An Earth Day celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 13 at the Pulda Farm, next to the Community Garden in the front of the park. There will be planting activities, a leisurely mile walk and light refreshments.

Also, North Brunswick Historical Society will continue to preserve the farmhouse at the Pulda Farm site. The society received a Preserve New Jersey Preservation Grant last year from the New Jersey Historic Trust. The largest grant to-date, for $21,375, will help preserve the nearly 250-year-old John Buckelew House and prepare an application to designate the entire Pulda Farm as a National Historic Site.

For more information on the programs, call the North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services at 732-247-0922, ext. 475.
