The East Windsor Regional School District will hold a job fair next week to fill at least 50 job openings for teachers – from special education teachers to STEM teachers – for the 2019-2020 school year.
The April 6 job fair will run from 10 a.m. to noon at Hightstown High School, which is located at 25 Leshin Lane.
The deadline to register for the job fair is April 4. Registration can be handled online by visiting the district’s website at www.eastwindsorregionalschools.com.
The starting salary for a first-year teacher with a bachelor’s degree is $61,045. The district offers fringe benefits that include medical, dental and prescription drug plans. Teachers also receive professional training and mentoring, and tuition reimbursement.
The school district is seeking special education teachers at the high school level, and there is also a need for STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) teachers at the elementary and middle school levels, school district officials said.
The district also needs world language teachers, especially in Spanish and French.
Minority and Spanish-speaking teacher-applicants are being sought. The school district belongs to CJ Pride, which seeks to attract more minority teachers into the fold. East Windsor is among eight Mercer County school districts that belong to CJ Pride – Central Jersey Program for Recruiting Diverse Educators.
More than 40 percent of the 4,700-plus students speak languages other than English at home – and most of the languages are Spanish. It is helpful if the would-be teachers are able to communicate with children and their families in Spanish, school district officials said.
The East Windsor Regional School District’s commitment to its diverse student body is what sets it apart from neighboring school districts, officials said. For the most part, the district’s performance exceeds the state average.
