Upper Freehold Regional school board includes improvements in 2019-20 budget

At the same time as they introduced a $43.36 million budget to fund the Upper Freehold Regional School District in 2019-20, Board of Education members authorized funding for improvements in the district.

During a meeting on March 13, board members authorized a $188,000 withdrawal from the maintenance reserve account.

The money will be placed in the budget and used for site work at all of the district’s buildings for the maintenance of sidewalks, curbs, parking lots and other site issues; re-pointing of brick; field maintenance; power washing; in-house painting supplies; heating, ventilation and air conditioning maintenance and repair; roof vent repair/replacement; and any other health and safety issues throughout the district that are considered maintenance.

Board members also authorized a $230,000 withdrawal from the capital reserve account.

The money will be placed in the budget and used for a new divider in the old Allentown High School gymnasium; new siding and roofing for the press box at the high school football field; a new parking lot adjacent to the Newell Elementary School to address health and safety concerns; a new safety rail for the elementary school auditorium balcony; carpeting of the elementary school media center; and the relocation of the pre-kindergarten playground with new fencing and safety surface.

Finally, board members authorized an $82,458 withdrawal from the emergency reserve account.

The money will be placed in the budget and used for the installation of safety film on entrance doors and some adjacent windows in all schools, according to district administrators.

The Upper Freehold Regional district is comprised of three schools: the Newell Elementary School, the Stone Bridge Middle School and Allentown High School. The total enrollment as of October 2018 was slightly less than 1,900 pupils.
