Fully uniformed officers save four women from pond at Regency at Monroe after motor vehicle accident

MONROE – Four women are safe thanks to the quick efforts of first responders in Monroe after their vehicle wound up in a pond.

A BMW being driven by a 78-year-old woman from Monroe was traveling south in the parking lot of the Regency at Monroe clubhouse and was attempting to park in a marked handicap parking spot when the driver reportedly accelerated, drove over the curb, across landscape rocks, and into a viewing pond, according to information provided by the Monroe Township Police Department.

The vehicle started to float in the water as water started to slowly enter the vehicle.

Several Monroe Township police officers arrived on scene and entered the pond in their full uniforms. They were able to tie a rope to the vehicle and pull it toward a shallow part of the pond, according to reports.

Members of the Monroe Township Fire Department and the Monroe Township First Aid Squad arrived on scene shortly after and safely removed all of the occupants out of the vehicle before it filled up with water. There were three passengers, an 80-year-old woman from Monroe in the front, and a 76-year-old woman and a 78-year-old woman, both from Monroe, in the rear.

None of the occupants of the vehicle were injured in the incident, according to reports. The front seat passenger requested to be transported to the hospital to be evaluated, police said.
