Magic Beans and Misadventures in ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ at Kelsey Theatre

When a poor boy trades the family cow for three magical beans, he gets way more than he bargained for.

Virginia Rep on Tour will present the classic fairytale “Jack and the Beanstalk” at Mercer County Community College’s Kelsey Theatre at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. April 13.

Kelsey Theatre is on the college’s campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor.

This lively musical depicts the famous exploits of young Jack, who decides to sell Bessie
to a stranger for some purportedly magic beans – instead of selling her in town as his
mother instructed. His disappointed mom tosses the beans out the window.

By the next morning, a giant beanstalk has grown and what can Jack do but climb right up?

At the top, he finds a grumpy giant who has imprisoned a magic harp and a hen that lays
golden eggs. Can Jack figure out a way to escape the wrath of the giant and take the harp
and hen with him?

Virginia Rep celebrates more than 40 years as a nonprofit professional theater, presenting
exciting and innovative theatrical productions for young audiences, according to a press release. In addition to presenting shows at its home theater, Virginia Rep on Tour performs plays and musicals at hundreds of venues nationwide.

Tickets for “Jack and the Beanstalk” are $10 for children and seniors, and $12 for
adults. Tickets may be purchased online at www.KelseyTheatre.net or by calling the
box office at 609-570-3333. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible, with free
