Aiming to give parents and community members a taste of what happens in the classroom every day, the East Windsor Regional School District is holding its annual “Curriculum Expo” on April 17 at Hightstown High School.
The Curriculum Expo – formerly known as the Curriculum Fair – will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is open to parents and community members who live in East Windsor Township and Hightstown Borough.
The event was revised from last year to give parents and the community a chance to interact with the curriculum in the schools, including the educational technology that is used in the classrooms, school district officials said.
The Curriculum Expo will highlight students’ work in all grade levels and content areas – from kindergarten through 12th grade. Students and teachers will present projects in the humanities, math and science, the arts and physical education, school district officials said.
In the “Project Green: Importance of Pollinators” project, students will discuss the importance of pollinators – bees – and the need to plant gardens that provide nectar for their survival.
A list of recommended plants will be available to visitors, as well as marigolds that the students planted from seeds. Visitors can take home the list of suggested plants and some marigolds, too.
In the “Geometry Symposium,” students will present hands-on activities that show the importance of geometry in the real world. They will show real-world applications of geometry concepts.
If all of that thinking is too much, parents and community members can go back a few years and find out what it is like to be a kindergarten student today. They can listen to a story, find letters in the sand and play educational games – just like real kindergarteners do today.
And the Curriculum Expo will include musical performances by the Hightstown High School Jazz Band, as well as musical performances by elementary school students.
