According to the municipal clerk’s office, Republican Al Ferro has filed a nominating petition to retain his seat on the governing body. No Democrat filed a petition to run for office.

An individual who wants to run as an independent candidate has until June 4 to file a nominating petition and secure a place on the Nov. 5 ballot.

During the June 4 primary, a candidate may be nominated by write-in votes to run with a political party affiliation.

Ferro has been a member of the Township Committee since September 2018, when he was appointed to fill a vacant seat for the remainder of the year, succeeding Bob Kinsey, who resigned from the governing body shortly before his death.

In November 2018, Ferro and Democrat Raymond Dothard ran for election to serve the final year (2019) of Kinsey’s term. Ferro won the one-year term he is currently serving.

Ferro, who has been a resident of Millstone since 2000, has worked as a law enforcement officer in New York for more than 20 years.

Prior to joining the Township Committee, he served as an alternate member of the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. He has continued to serve on the Planning Board as the mayor’s designee.

All five members of the governing body are Republicans. Ferro is joined on the Township Committee by Gary Dorfman, Nancy Grbelja, Michael Kuczinski and Fiore Masci, who is serving as mayor in 2019.
