South Brunswick teen charged with child pornography and extortion

 

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A man from South Brunswick has been charged with manufacturing child pornography, endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of child pornography, extortion, cyber harassment and terroristic threats.

On April 19, Daniel House, 19, of South Brunswick, was charged with 35 criminal counts which include three counts of manufacturing child pornography in the first degree, six counts of endangering the welfare of a minor in the third degree, one count of possession of child pornography in the second degree, six counts of extortion in the second degree, six counts of cyber harassment in the third degree, and one count of terroristic threats in the fourth degree, according to a joint statement provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Raymond Hayducka of the South Brunswick Police Department.

Detectives executed search warrants at the defendant’s residence and seized his electronic devices, according to the statement. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Unit allegedly recovered more than 1,000 items depicting the sexual exploitation of children from those devices.

The investigation determined that from at least September 2017 to December 2018, House allegedly caused to be created and extorted and distributed child pornography. During this same time period, he allegedly assumed a false identity on social networking sites with the purpose to extort and harass victims, according to the statement. House is charged with endangering minors for the online activities he conducted.

House was taken into custody by the United States Marshal’s Service at Atlantic City Airport on April 19. He was being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick pending a detention hearing scheduled for April 26.
