A man from North Brunswick has been charged in the death of a pedestrian who was struck and killed on Livingston Avenue during the early morning hours of April 20.
Daquan White, 26, of North Brunswick, was charged on May 1 with vehicular homicide in the second degree, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash in the second degree, two counts of hindering apprehension or prosecution in the third degree, and tampering with physical evidence in the fourth degree, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department.
The deceased pedestrian was identified as Anthony Cruz-Medina, 22, of New Brunswick. He was pronounced dead at the scene following the fatality which occurred on Livingston Avenue near Baldwin Street at approximately 12:40 a.m. April 20, according to the statement.
“Whenever a crash occurs, the drivers involved must stop and call the police. This is especially true when people are injured. To simply drive away when a life may otherwise be saved is abhorrent,” Carey said in the statement. “We aggressively investigate and prosecute those who leave the scene of any accident and try to cover up their misdeeds.”
White was scheduled for his initial court appearance via video on May 2 in New Brunswick Superior Court.
