EDISON – Police have charged a 19-year-old Edison man in connection with as many as 18 vehicle burglaries in April at homes along Stony Road, Kenlen Drive and Adele Court, according to police.

Police officer Joseph DePasquale apprehended the man at 11:40 p.m. on April 30 as he was walking toward the Edison Motor Lodge on Route 1, where he was temporarily staying, Police Lt. Robert Dudash said.

DePasquale noticed the man fit the suspect’s description from a residential security video, Dudash said. The man was previously charged on April 6 for other car burglaries, but was later released on bail.

At the time of his most recent charges, the man was also wanted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office on a separate burglary warrant, Dudash said.

Police Chief Thomas Bryan said police want all residents “to feel secure in their homes and to know their cars, parked outside, are safe.

“Our police officers actively investigate quality-of-life crimes, like car burglaries, just as carefully as they investigate more serious or significant crimes,” he said.

Vehicle owners told Edison police an undetermined amount of cash and various personal items were stolen from their vehicles during the rash of April car burglaries. The suspect is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick.
