Edison police investigate possible hit-and-run

EDISON – Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who allegedly injured an 86-year-old township woman who was taking a walk on May 1, police said.

The elderly victim remains in critical condition with fractured ribs, internal injuries and a collapsed lung at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, police said.

The woman’s family told police she was injured on Nevsky Street, near Park Avenue, at about 8:45 a.m. May 1, but they initially believed she had fallen while she was taking a walk, police said.

Later, physicians at the New Brunswick hospital told the victim’s family that the woman’s extensive injuries appeared consistent with being hit by a car, police said.

On May 3, the victim’s daughter reported her mother’s injuries to police at headquarters.

Police have been unable to find residential or commercial security videos from anywhere near the accident scene to visually document what occurred, police said.

Witnesses or anyone with knowledge about the incident are asked to contact the Edison Police Department at 732-248-7400.
